Hello,

Im having problems with my run flat indicator light.

I had a puncture repaired on my non run flat tryes and now the indicator light stays on permenantly from the time i start the ignition. I have tried resetting the light using the reset button under the handbrake, but to no avail.

Does anyone know how to fix this problem before or knows how i can disable the indicator light as i dont really need it.

Thanks

If the light is Orange then there is an error and it needs resetting like in the suggestion above. If the light is red then you have another problem! I'm sure it just needs resettting by holding the button down until the light comes on when you first turn the car on.

I needed mine resetting after having a new set of wheels and tyres put on. No worries but I was a bit scared and very close to the dealer so popped in and they reset it for me by the above advise!

Good luck.

Press and hold the button by the handbrake until the light goes green.

From 2002 Owner's Manual ...

Reset the TPMS:
  1. Ignition key in position 2
  2. Press the button long enough for the yellow indicator lamp in the instrument cluster to light up for a few seconds
  3. Start the engine.
After a few minutes driving time, the Flat Tire Monitor sets the current inflation pressure in the tires as the target values to be monitored.

Hi,

The orange run flat light comes on orange when i turn on the ignition, this light used to go off when the car was started, but now it just stays on constantly all the time.

I have tried to reset the button by holding it down as suggested, but it has still not worked.

Is it possible that the sensor was damaged when the tire puncture was repaired as im not really sure how them sensors work. Apart from going back to the dealers who would probably suggest changing all the sensors is there anythings else i can do?

Is there any way i can turn this light off?

Thanks again.

It does seem we have the same problem Wendy, have you had the fault fixed yet?

Im suspecting that the sensors may have been damaged when the punctures were being repaired...

I had 2 within a week - thats unlucky!!! Still, my sensor works but it never told me I had a puncture the second time, so I may have a broken sensor. Not sure:confused:

Hi, sorry for delay in getting back to you - laptop problems!

Seems my indicator sorted itself out! Very odd but we parked up for the night having given up on what could be wrong and when i started the car the next day the indicator wasn't lit :puzzled:

It hasn't played up since. I'm starting to think there may be a bug in my electrics... part exchanging for a new one on sat so its someone elses problem now.

Hope you manage to get yours sorted. :)

I read that the sensor measures the speed of each wheel to determine if there's a difference and hence possible puncture. To initialise the system;
1 Check tyre pressures
2 Start engine
3 Press reset switch until light comes on
4 Drive off
So it says in the handbook.

Hi,
Just looking for a bit of help and google brought me to this board and this topic. We have a Mini Cooper, have had it for about 18 months and it's been great! But, just before Xmas, the run flat indicator came on during a short drive around town. We thought "great, puncture"! Luckily, some family friends have a tyre place so we drove it there to have it looked at. There was no puncture. The garage advised us to go and re-set all of the tyre pressures so we did. Read the manual and followed the process with the run flat button, and headed off home. The light didn't go out however! We've repeated the process a few times, even checking the tyre pressure hadn't dropped, it's remains the same, or at least doesn't drop enough to trigger the light.

I'm not sure how the light is supposed to work, but it just constantly flashes orange. I'm not sure if it's supposed to be a solid light ever?

We've run it into our local bmw mini, but they've not been very helpful, they've mentioned it could be a faulty sensor, but want a wad of cash before they even look at it.

Has anyone else experienced this and anyone know what to do?!

Help much appreciated!!

Thanks

set all your tyres to 32psi , then move off and reset your indicator after about 50 yards . This should give ride sensors a chance to reset.

I had the same problem with mine and took it to the dealer as it was still under warrenty. Apparently if the light stays on constantly it is no longer working and the sensor needs replacing.

The sensor is the abs sensor if that is faulty you will get an abs fault light as well you need to press and hold button when stationary then drive off be persistent and try a few times if light goes straight off it hasn't rest it should stay on for few yards
