There is a rust color in my coolant. The Mini dealership could only tell me it didn't "feel" like the radiator hoses were bad. If they were to research any further they would have started charging me huge diagnosis fees. This car really has turned out to be a lemon because everything is bad on it and I just bought it.

Rust in the coolant is most likely a lack of the correct anti freeze.

I'd start by draining it down and flushing through to clear any crud, refill with the correct coolant mixture and take it from there.

What year MINI and when was the coolant last changed?
I know with the early Gen 1 R50/52/53's there was a benign issue
with leftover material from the engine castings causing brown coolant
in the first year or so, but haven't heard that this is still an issue with the
newer ones.
