Here is a picture of the actual spring. I unbent one turn to allow it to do it's job again.

Uopu can see the end that broke, it's sharp

Exactly the same happened in my MIni cooper F55. Following your instructions I fixed that in 5 hours (4 of them was the plastic console removal ).
