About to confirm order for Cooper this week. Still unsure about SS+ though, however various posts suggested I include it. I know it improves road holding over std suspension, however does it affect the mp3 to skip when going over bumps or cause serious rattles over time?

Had my car for a week. MP3 cd's skip over serious bumps - very rare though. As for the rattles? Well lets just say; the B pillar is rattling, something is rattling in the speaker casing (not the speaker itself), the top far dashboard vent is rattling very badly (like a buzz) and there's this odd squeak that comes back now and then.

Quite p*ssed off but she still drives like a dream. And it's made all the better for SS+, I just think that some of the parts aren't glued together properly.

I too have had my Cooper (with SS+) for a few weeks now, and I am also experiencing quite a few rattles . However, my dealer (Scotthall of Hampshire) have been very good so far, and my car is due in with them next week for two days (this is so that they can investigate the rattles both first thing in the morning and in the evening, when the car is at different temperatures). The service is good so far...

It has taken a slight shine off of the ownership experience, but nothing off of the driving experience ! IMO, the SS+ more than makes up for the trouble it has so far caused - do it!

I don't have SS+, but do have H-sport sport springs and rear sway bar for less than the cost of SS+ and NO RATTLES in 12,500 miles!

Well test drove 05 Cooper this afternoon without SS+ and the car was very responsive and eager. It hinted of more to come, though was too much traffic around to really get pedal down.

Went ahead and placed order for Electric blue Cooper with 7 fin spoke instead of 5 star 16"

• Anthracite headliner
• Chrome interior
• SS+
• Bonnet stripes

The chilli package does include Silver surface and unsure whether to go with this or not. Either way I can't wait

Depends on the quality of road. Where I live there are a lot of dodgy surfaces and yes, after just short of 8,000 miles, this has caused some annoying rattles around the interior. The glove-box lid & the plasticky dash section under the speedo are the worst. I asked the dealer to sort them out and upon collection the chap told me that it's a combination of the sports suspension, run-flat tyres and possibly a little to do with the 12" sub in the boot!. If you only drive on nice smooth surfaces, you get no rattles and the S/S will help you stick to the road like glue . Rattles drive me insane...I can even hear them with the stereo right up...but the unbelievably good road-holding cancels out any thoughts of getting rid!
Also, anything you put in the door pockets or the little cubby hole by your right knee will rattle.

I saw a post some months back about annoying rattles and ways to fix them...think it was in the Interior & ICE section.

Not sure what difference SS+ will make as plenty of people seem to get rattles anyway even with the normal sports suspension.

My Cooper is just over a month old with less than 2000 miles on the clock. It is going back in next week for a second lot of rattles to be (hopefully) sorted. So far rattles from both side windows, the top of the dash, the drivers side A pillar, the centre panel around the speedo and a strange clicking from the rear which I hav'nt managed to pin down yet. That is all with normal SS and 16 inch runflats.

Some people seem to get them and some people don't. It all seems like a bit a lottery really.

Our Cooper has SS+ and rattles too. Dash top around the vent, OSR interior panel against the window, OS door round and somewhere vague in the back. You'd expect better from BM, but we had a rattly Golf IV before this (remember the MK II ad?) so there's no change. Oh, and a rattly Peugeot 206 before that.

Come to think of it, since we started buying new cars in 1999, they've all rattled.

I am getting SS+, and hopefully the only reason that EVERYBODY in this thread has complained of rattles is the "non-rattle" people ignored this thread... eesh.... I don't like rattley cars.

ive had my car just over a week now, and its falling appart!!! haha

nah, its not too bad, but the speaker is falling appart, and there is some kinda rattle coming from the dash, nothing major and nothing to put me off the car at all, as i expected to get these problems!!

Be phoning the dealer tomorrow one thinks!!

Well I collected mine from the dealer last night and - it now has a new 'rattley chettering' type noise from the base of the windscreen where it meets the dash (I guess that must mean that they did do something ... )

I also now have a noise coming from the rear pacel shelf area when I go over potholes or ramps - didn't do that before...

As for the service - exemplary (apart form having no paperwork from the 'master technician' saying what they'd done/found when I went to go and pick it up ).

Unfortunately there is now a nice scratch and chip on my drivers side rear 17" alloy, which has really p*ss*d me off - I've been soooooooo careful about my wheels, and haven't even rubbed a tyre against a single kerb yet. I am livid I e-mailed the garage this morning after finding it there late last night, but as yet no response. (Also not happy that the average mpg dropped from just over 30 when I left it with them to 24.7 when I picked it up last night - how hard do you have to drive a car to hear some rattles? .)

It'll be going back again I think... Hope it doesn't come back with more damage. Must go - I'm getting quite upset now...

Had my Cooper for just over a week now and I get the same rattle in the centre of the dash somewhere but I’m not fussed by it, the SS+ more than makes up for the slight rattle. Plus I can't hear it when I got my music on anyway

Also went for the 7 Spoke fins they look well chunky on my car here's a couple of pic's

I've got a four week old MINI ONE with standard suspension and even this one has got a buzz on the dash,possibly from the chrome air vent surround,so you might get a buzz or a rattle whatever there again you might not,my 03 MINI ONE didn't have any from memory...ohh just a squeaky seat which dissapeared when you raised the back of the seat slightly.

Rattles gone!

Well all - it's been a while, but having had my car back at the dealers twice now, they have got to the bottom of the noises!

I am really impressed, and the wheel damage was also sorted - we eventually agreed to split the cost 50/50 (as they conduct their inspection after the car is dropped off, I couldn't prove that the wheel wasn't damaged when I left it with them... ).

For info, they did the following over the course of the two visits:

i) removed the top of the dash and insulated the wiring loom around the centre vent;
ii) insulated behind both A-pillar covers;
iii) replaced the off side C-pillar cover (?!).

The last one was due to some excess noise coming from the parcel shelf area, and this too appears to have gone. There are still too many cracking noises coming from the new driver's 'side visor' over rough surfaces, but I think I can live with this (I may even have a go myself with some vaseline or the like).

One happy bunny, at last able to enjoy his new pride and joy (and the H-K sound system I paid through the nose for! )

Yeah, I am reading this thread in anticipation of "The Rattles." Hahaha... But I figure I am buying a tight, road-hugging vehicle that was built for fun and performance over a pillowy ride and luxury so I can't be too picky whilst yamming a turn at 35 mph about a squeak coming from somewhere in the front dash...

A fair trade if you ask me...

(although I am hoping for NO squeaks and rattles...)
