Hi All,

Does anyone have a lot of squeaks, groans etc. from the rear of the car when travelling at very low speed? Say, for example moving around a car park or on bumpy ground at very low speed?

I also have an intermittent knocking sound from the rear somewhere you can hear when hitting bumps at low speed.

So, anybody else have this?

Thanks

Yep I had the exact same thing with my car! Sounded like there was something rattling about in the boot.. Took my car to BMW (instead of MINI as there were and still are many other problems with it which they can't seem to fix).. went out for a test drive with a guy who specialises in MINIs and he thought it was something to do with some sort of brush near the rear drivers side wheel  that needed replacing.. anyway they replaced the part and now it doesn't 'knock'.. maybe you have the same problem as I did?!

i had some what of a clattering sound going over bumps or rough roads, which sounded like it was coming from the rear to me. i did quite a few test drives with a technician in the car which they say sounds like it comes from the floor near the front. it ended up being a loose engine mount. been replaced and sound is gone now.

I had exactly the same as rburna,. I tried everything, removed everything out of the boot, checked all the seat belts, fastended the seat belts, checked the wheels werent knocking on the hub (as the sounds only occured at very low speed, or manouvering. Eventualy it drove me crazy (and to the dealer) who instantly said it was a loose engine mount and fixed it in no time!

Car went it late on today.

Workshop manager came out with me and heard the noise, so that is promising.

Got an M-Sport 325D as a courtesy car, a very fast machine!

Got the car back today.

Technician road tested the car and noted knocks ans squeak from rear at low speed.

He replaced anti-roll bar bushes. Removed and tested shock absorbers and replaced top mount bushes.

Seems to have fixed the problem. :)

Good service from Eastern BMW/MINI Edinburgh.

I've been having the same knocking sound coming from the rear of my D in the last couple of weeks. Due in for servicing tomorrow so will get it looked at, along with condensation in the headlamp and loose wheel arch trim (yet again  )

yep its the anti roll bar bushes, its common bet they had some in stock!!

had mine done at 44k

they had been knocking for 20k just couldn't pinpoint noise, and if you cant give a good description and demo it on a test drive its a real pain!! cause they tell you they cant find it!!

expect to see loads with this fault, 4 of my friends r56's have had to be done. all similar mileage

It was indeed the anti roll bar bushes and they knew straight away what it was.

However, I'm not particularly pleased with Cooper Tunbridge Wells who have charged me £37 to fix the wheel arch trim and claimed that condensation inside the headlamp will burn off after the light has been on! Errr maybe but it'll just comes back again - even if it did ever burn off (which it never has done). They claimed the trim had been pull off and they have never seen another MINI were the trim had come off by itself. I've been asked to leave feedback - I certainly will and it will not be positive.

I think it's shocking that this issue is still ignored, and that I've been charged £37 for 3 plastic clips (and 0.25 Hrs labour).
