Unfortunately not so simple. By disconnecting the MAD you're forcing it into running open loop. I would be reconnecting the MAF and checking fuel trims. Good chance you have a vacuum leak.

Will it run if given a bit of throttle? If so, raise RPMs to around 3 or 4k and hold steady whilst monitoring your short term and long term fuel trims. If adding the 2 figures together gives you a number of around 6% or below (but this figure goes higher as you reduce RPM) you have a vacuum leak.

Happy to help. Disconnecting the MAF will often hide an intake leak and most professional mechanics would probably have made the same assumption.
