I have a 2009 Mini Cooper (automatic) and just replaced the battery in December. I tried starting the engine today and as soon as I pressed the button the car went dead: all the lights on board were off, no buttons worked, the key fob was stuck inside. I tried everything I could think of (moving the gear shifter, the steering wheel etc). After a couple of minutes the lights came back on, I took the key out and thought it was just a fluke. So I tried again and the same thing happened, car went dead. I waited, this time lights came back on after 15 minutes so I tried starting the engine again and for the third time all the power went off. This time lights and radio came back on after an hour so I didn't want to try again for a 4th time. Took the key out, locked the car and I am trying to find a solution online. I don't think it's the battery since it is essentially new, but what else can it be? The key is a little old and worn should I try the replacement 2nd key which is brand new?
