Steam billowing from my Mini!

1430 Views 11 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  Mini Me GB
I washed my new 3 week old Mini this morning at about noon and afterwards put her away in the garage.

I drove for about 5 mins at 5:30pm and when I arrived to my horror there is steam (I assume) billowing out the chrome vents at the front of the bonnet. I opened the bonnet and it looks as if it's coming from the radiator, I turned it on and off and again it billowed.. The temp gauge is normal..

Any idea if this is simply the water burning off from when I washed it, or should I be worried? :(

jus steam from the water on yer radiator, perfectly fine!

yer exhaust will do it too so u can have steam from both ends!:p
Ihad steam comming off my bonnet because of the sun. Kind of scares me really, always think my mini's gonna burn!
:D cool, thanks for your help.. Sorry for the panic but when you see your new baby not looking too well, panic sets in :D .. I thought when I opened the bonnet I was gonna have a blazing inferno to deal with!
It's typical for steam to come out of the intake scoop on S's after a wash, so I guess it's just looking for a vent to escape from.

Nothin wrong with a good jet wash every 5 months or so to get rid of the grease and grime I have never had any problems (Touch wood) with it and I was complimented by Martin L about how clean my engine was hehe. ;) :D

I know it was only steam - but you said you thought you were gonna have a blazing inferno. If you ever really suspect this - DON'T open the bonnet!
Thanks for the tip sprite but I thought that if it really was on fire my fingers would be burnt when finding the bonnet release, I couldn't feel any heat so opened the bonnet. :)
