I have an 03 plate mini cooper which is having problems with the panoramic sunroof.

Recently when i go to close the sunroof, it gets jammed open. The whole sunroof closes except for the back drivers side which stays open. (obviously being glass, this isnt good). I have tried greasing the runners, but has made no difference. All the runners appear to be clean.

Any help would be appreciated.

This probably isn't your problem, but just in case..... I had the same problem. My boyfriend says, let's WD-40 it. And I LAUGHED - but guess what - he cleaned out the tracks and sprayed the lube and it works perfectly.

The tell-tale was the fact that it would tilt OK and try to move back, but stop.

Tell your boyfriend to step away from the WD-40.... ;)

OK, well actually it isn't bad for breaking up old grease and loosening things, but he should have used a little white lithium grease instead. WD-40 can drip and stain your head liner so you have to be very careful with it. All you really need is a q-tip and some white lithium grease.

Any success with this fix guys? I'm having exactly the same problem....when the sunroof closes, the drivers side stays in the tilt position bending the glass.

I stripped the glass off, lubed the runners but no success yet. Even without the glass in place the drivers side seems to get stuck. It's almost as if it reaches a point in the travel (and that point need not always happen at the same point) when the runner sticks and lags behind the passenger side, causing a angle on the glass to form.

I'd be grateful if anyone has any advice to help me otherwise as the cost of diagnostics and replacement at the local BMW dealership is laughable.

Many thanks

I used some white lithium grease - spray some in to the cap and apply with a cotton bud either side of the runners. When I first did it, it didn't work - the sunroof was still very stiff. But tried it a few months later and perfect!

Not had the problem with just one side staying up - sounds nasty.
