can someone with an OEM alarm tell me when you lock/unlock the doors with the keyfob, does it beep like a BMW alarm? or honk the horn real quick like a Honda alarm? I'm picking up my S in 2 days :-D

Beeps like a Bimmer. Lights flash as well. BTW, there is no key "fob." Key and fob are integrated into one unit. Jimbo
thanks for the reply! yeah i'm so used to calling it a keyfob, i don't know why. iguess since the buttons that used to be found on a fob are integrated in with the key on the MINI's...sigh. anyway, yeah, the beep is what i was looking for, thanks!
Beeping alarm?

Is this something the dealer has to program? I have the factory alarm, and mine has no audio feedback on activation/deactivation. The only feedback it has is when I lock/activate it, the lights will flash. No light flash on deactivation. The only time it beeps on activation is when a door is not properly closed.
hey JCWGrover. My MA informed me that when they install the alarm, the software that they put in has the audible tone ON as default, and I can have them turn it off if I don't like it. has this been other people's experience as well?
My factory fitted alarm doesn't make any sound. I didn't ask for the sound to be turned off by default.
I actually think that there's a problem with my OEM alarm...

It only beeps (twice) when I unlock the car, and never beeps when I lock it. The lights flash on both lock and unlock though. I had another MINI and I remember the alarm beeping once when setting it and twice when disarming it. When I set this new one, it doesn't beep at all and the indicator LED flashes rapidly for about 10 seconds and then goes to normal intermittent flashing.

When I look at the manual/pamphlet that came with the alarm, it says that this occurs when a door, the boot, or the bonnet is open, or if a window or the sunroof is open (which none of them are). Thus, I'm starting to think that there is a problem with one of the sensors or perhaps with the motion sensor (as the manual says that the same thing will happen when the motion sensor is disabled).

Can anyone tell me if their OEM alarm behaves differently?
My factory fitted alarm does not make any sound either on locking or unlocking.
Hope that is of help to you.
D'oh!

I just took the car out for a drive around the block and when I got back it was working like it should. Must have been a MINI bug. :D

Anyway, the alarm now beeps one tone when locking the car and two tones when unlocking it. For those of you who are not hearing the sounds, I do indeed believe that they can be disabled/enabled by the dealer. The manual I got with my OEM alarm says that many of the functions are location specific. Thus, maybe in your country the alarm program is configured not to make the beep sounds by default (or at all) when arming/disarming.

My 2003 MCS does NOT make any noise, but my loaner MCS did - one tone when locking, two tones when unlocking - in time with the indicator flashes. Pain in the ars* if you ask me!
