Morin all - I was just contemplating going for a blast in the mini this morning and it is the usual problem of living in london and having to drive for at least 1.5 - 2 hrs to find any half decent roads :( It's days live this I really envy mini2 members across the border, I did a road trip of the west highlands last year and the roads were fantastic.

I live in East(ish) London and was wondering if anyone knew of any decent drives that don't involve a 6 hour round trip?

On a more general note - I was intrested to find out what are your favourite UK roads? My choice (apart from most of the scottish highlands) would be the A372 to Langport in Somerset: It was re-surfaced a couple of years ago, has tree-lined sweeping bends, a hairpin, even a hump-backed bridge :D :D

Yea, have the same problem living in London, long drive just to escape the traffic!

Not sure on my fav piece of road, but my fav corner is the interchange coming off the M25 onto the M3 heading towards London. Fun watching other cars trying to keep up on the 180+ degree bend!

I know what you mean about no decent roads in London. However, a few weeks ago whilst travelling back from Worthing I found the A24, which was fast and fun. Very popular with bikers around Boxhill (fast twisty bits) and only a few cameras too. Plus you could get yourself JCW'd at the John Cooper garages in Worthing!!!

My favourite road is a B road linking Broad Hinton to Marlborough in Wilts. It's unclassifed I think, but the Lat & Long is thus: 51.4789, -1.8320. The road was always being used by the Top Gear crew (back in the day, when it was on during week) and in fact tonight's 5th Gear were testing the new LR Discovery on it!

Ahh, the A354 - used to commute that everyday - made the 100mile round trip almost worthwhile.

Used to be pretty exciting when the Ferrari garage was in Pimperne - you'd see a red dot a couple of hills behind you then WOOOSSSHHH!

Dead right cozzers - that was part of the Ridgeway Meet back in May (which if my memory serves me correctly you sort of unwittingly took part in, later on in Baydon)
Yes! I remember spotting that road on one of the videos that scooperman-uk made. Wish I'd joined the full run now, although it was a great sight when 40 odd MINI's appeared over the horizon :D

Maybe next year? Plus my black MC has been replaced with a HB MCS so I should give you all a run for your money on the Marlborough road!

Was the garage owned by Nigel Mansell at one point? I seem to remember my Dad making that one of his favourite roads when he had his Alfa 164 Cloverleaf. I still can't work out which side of the road we were meant to be on

lets here it for the north

hartside pass in durham county & buttertubs pass in north yorkshire are fantastic roads.
B6255 from Ingleton to Hawes
B6160 which runs south to north right through the yorkshire dales from bolton bridge to aysgarth & has been used on several runs
B6265 which runs west to east across the dales from skipton to boroughbridge.

all these despite being B roads are fast, smooth flowing roads with lovely long bends. makes me want to get out there now :D

That's the one, then Westover took it over and it went through being a Lotus, TVR and Morgan dealer. Now it's closed down and boarded up - no doubt they'll put a few houses on there now.

Oh, you're meant to stay on one side of the road?!!!! It says on my drivers license "Tear down dotted line"...
