Timing chain guide

2035 Views 5 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  pheasant_plucker
I'm told by my independent shop that the timing chain guide on my R56 is broken and the chain is misaligned.
To replace the guide, the chain must be removed and replaced at a cost o about ten hours of labor and $2400.
Has anybody had any experience in this area? Comments will be appreciated.

it dont take 10 hours 5 max
Time would depend on the experience level of the technician; is your independent shop a BMW/MINI shop or do they service all makes? Call your local BMW/MINI dealer and ask them for the labor hours for a timing chain replacement.

no need to pull front away to do timing chain on petrol mini,, its engine and gear box out on all diesels after 2010 when bmw used the n47 diesels
I did one last year for the first time and it took just short of five hours and i spent at least 40 minutes getting the locking pin in the hole as it was gummed up.
