I need all four tyres on my cooper S with S spoke alloys.
Been thinking about getting non run flat tyres.
Is it worth it?

Any views peps??

Well to start off you can get fairly cheap runflats these days my 17" 205/45's Dunlop sport 01's were reduced from £230-£160 still dear but that was from blackcircles on line tyre service, found them to be very good service. :D

If you go away from the runflats how will you prep for roadside flats?

Some people buy an onboard skinny, others stash a can of repair spray. In the end you probably will have to fork out for a new tyre anyways as not many repair centres will repair a tyre once you have repaired with spray!
And I think if you are able to repair it may only be the once!

You will have to get all the costs involved and measure up wether it is worth it or not!
Some people have posted a better ride without runflats!
Hope this helps!:D

To me, the biggest factor you need to take into consideration is safety.

I've had a blow on on a run flat and it was completely undramatic. There was a big bang and the car felt a bit 'wallowy'.

That said. if it was such a good system, I imagine a lot more manufacturers would be using it. As it is, it's only BMW.

I ended up being stranded as I had no spare and it was a Saturday night and I was >200 miles from home. I was also supposed to be taking my wife to the airport the following morning and there was a lot of frantic running around to organise another car.

All things considered, I'd rather be on normal tyres and have a jack and a spare.

I'm 36 and have only ever suffered one blow out in 18 years of motoring. Never say never, but the chances are quite slim. And in fact mine was caused by excessive wear on the inside edge of one of my tyres (rear tyre) which couldn't be seen when the car was parked.

THis was on the BMW by the way. The mini actually did come with non run flat tyres and a spare. Or so I'm told, I've never actually checked.

I cant help answer this but I am in exactly the same situation & have posted up a thread about it myself.

I still cant make my mind up - The only one thing that i like about the runflats is the whole principle of the tyre but everything else - the ride etc is swaying me off them

I am in the sitauation know where all four of my runflats have worn out on the outer edge & need changing ASAP as my mini has gone from a go kart to a skid pan car.

I cant really afford to do them at the mo but they HAVE to be done so is it £400 for a set of non runflats & no spare or a second hand pair of runflats or £800+ for a new set of runflats & no worry about the spare

I have read all the points on here for & against but its still doesn't help paying top wack & have the safety of runflats - then having to pay for a brand new runflat even when you have a nearlly new tyre or no spare/being starnded & still having to pay for a new tyre but cheaper

There also the issue of where to keep a spare on a MCS

I hope you can help me find the answer

I just been on to my intended garage today to check the price i got in July is still the same & been told the the goodyears are about to discontinue the gds3 (215 45 r17) thats i was intending to get & there replacing with f1 asometric also the prices are going up by 4% from the 1.10

Anyone else heard about this??

Also that these asometric version are not so good as the gd's. Also that if you use your normall rims they may set you run flat sensor to permantely come on.

I have been quoted £398 for the f1's fully fitted & £486 for a set of runflats (205/45/r17)

According to Value tyres they still have the gds3 & not mention of hese others but when you work the price of fitting on top they dont work much cheaper

Any ideas greatfully received

I currently have the pierlli runflats at the mo

Just been on UK tyres online: Blackcircles.co.uk discount tyre specialist

Pirelli Eufori Run flats £114.20 ea. x4 = £456.80 fully fitted.

GoodYear Eagle RS-A (BMW) £121.24 ea. x4 = £484.96 fully fitted.

You need to put your post code into the site to find nearest available supply and fit centres. These could be other centres such as Central Tyres etc.;)

Hope this helps:biggrin:

Just looked up the goodyear eagle GDS3 that i want & it works out a lot cheaper - i think i may use them

The goodyear you have posted which are they as i thought most mini owners went for the GDS3

The runflats are cheaper - but i think i will prob plump for the non runflats

Thanks for the tip

I heard from other mini owners the goodyears runflats are not that great & as you posted they are dearer

If i went down the runflat route i think it would stick with the Pirelli Eufori - i only want the goodyears if i go down the non runflat route

I have been told my rims would fit non runflats but only what i been told on her

Yep I used to have the Pirelli's they are ok but seem to wear out quick! I know have the Dunlop sport 01's which came with the car and are the dearest to replace!!:frown:

The continentals below would be a reasonable choice as they are quality at affordability! not runflats though! You will need to sort out a spare possibly with the non runflats!
Non runflats Continental Sport Contact 2 205/45 R17 V (84) £108.49 ea
Heres the site again if you want to check. Hope it helps!

OOh now I remember the Pirelli Eufori's were a much noiser ride :aargh:than the Michelins I later fitted!
Most tyres are Assymetric these days, just means the tread is split into segment blocks to deal with varying road conditions;)
