Had the wife's car out the other day. And noticed the turbo wasn't working. Had it into garage today and turbo worked on the way there. Guy looked at it and said the turbo was goosed. Damage to the veins from some sort of impact. He thought carbon build up. Car was only walnut blasted 5k ago. The car also drinks oil. Probably a litre every 500mile at most. Doesn't appear to be burning oil when you look at the exhaust vapours. No blue smoke. Would a thicker oil help slow oil consumption say 10w30. And where's the cheapest place to buy a turbo. Spotted one at neo mini spares for 315 but this isn't OEM?

hmmm so carbon only builds up just before the inlet valves only way carbon could do that was if the turbo sucked the air out of the engine rather pumping it in, more likely divertor valve plastic has broken away and enter the veins, divertor is part of the turbo its self, i would not run that car without replacing the turbo as if they break away the bearing will fail on turbo completely and then you will need new 02 sensor new cat and new turbo anyway,,, and at worst if on boost at time chance of metal particles getting in past the inlet valves then its a engine on the list ,, turbo's have a life span 80-120.000 miles
