Twin Charger

Not too sure if this has been posted before but I have just received this from Mini Madness;

That's right, Twin Charged, Turbo Charged and Supercharged.

By adding a Turbocharger to the MINI we are able to acheive significant power gains.
Working with the base SPI turbo kit the MINI's Supercharger is maintained allowing low end power to still be provided by the supercharger. At 2300 rpm the turbo kicks in, hang on to your butts! the power is amazing. We venture to say that the 300hp mark has been realized.

This kit will be ready in early 2005 for all you thrill seekers.

The dynos posted by SPI on NAM show around 250 hp and Mini Madness is claiming 300 hp, so maybe they played with the boost a little ;)

I think you will find that NAM's 250hp are at the wheels, Mini Madness's 300hp are at the crank...
looked at the pics, are the U shaped intercooler feed pipes different from stock? they don't look like ones on my '03. i am assuming that the larger intercooler is part of the package. Have not seen any really good results from the top mount IC, with the extra boost/heat it definitely wouldn't hurt to us a front mounted IC. :dark:
Hum.... do you think it'll affect my warranty? :D

I know George's car quite well and believe me 300 at the crank is very doable. Don't forget it has all the rest of the mods on it. We were both sitting around 255 - 265 before the turbo. I talked to him yesterday and yes the boost is definitely up there. It's above 20 and in the process of being finely adjusted for optimum performance and durabilty.

So is this mod going to be available in the UK and at what price?

Don't know about UK availability, but US price is $5,850 plus installation:

Don't know the specifics, other than it takes 15 hours and dyno tuning is involved.

One US tuner developed a turbo kit for the Cooper but decided not to market it:

Addressing all the problems to make a reliable kit would probably make it too expensive.

I see there talking uprated pistons, AMD wer running a MCS at 400bhp (crank) and it streched the head bolts and blew a head gasget, if there running 300bhp (crank) with no other mods then the mind boggles...
G
here is a video of the SPI car on the track running with a Viper and Supra

:p

that car is putting down around 250whp

My upgraded version put down 274 SAE whp. Putting on a boost controller on the 3rd of January to hold boost that was bleeding off with my prototype actuator. We expect to be the first 300whp Mini on the 4th.... dyno numbers and video to come by the 4th or 5th....
