Has anyone else had to replace a 16" runflat tyre yet. My dealer quoted me £258!!! (for one tyre)

The puncture is on the sidewall and can't be repaired.
Kwikfit have quoted £132 which is a bit more like it.

Anyone know of anywhere else which is cheaper??

I hope that 130 odd quid is not the norm. I am planning to upgrade from the 15" 7 holes to the 16" 5 stars, I thought the 15s were about 55 each and the 16s 70-80 each. If thats how much they cost each, I think I'll forget it!

I thought MINI dealer were supposed to be doing perferential rates on tyres, maybe not then!

Somebody mentioned that Hi-Q were pretty reasonably priced and good. Don't know who it was though.
I must admit, I was expecting about the £95 mark.

1/. Ok, im intrigued how you punctured the sidewall of your tyre.....wasn't damaged "after" your flat was it ?

2/. I am still awaiting confirmation that run flat tyres can be legaly repaired. Can you put tubes in them ?

cheers

A price quoted months ago was £100 plus VAT - £120 near enough.

Earlier threads have stressed the importance of the repairer having the correct equipment otherwhise your wheels will be damaged.

Varse - stick with the 15"! The only time it makes sense to get the 16" is from new.

I got a quote just this morning, but I now wonder if I have been quoted for the wrong tyre

I called Hi-Q and made a point of them being run flat and realed of to them what was on the side of my tyres
EAGLE NCT 5
195/55 R16 87H

They quoted £89.30!!!
And yet someone is quoting figures like £258 and £132!?!?!?

They also didn't seem to be too fussed about my tyres being run flat and whether thier equipment will do the job without ballsing the alloys up.

I've always had this problem with other cars I have owned Ford, Nissan & Mercedes. The dealer price is usually 50-100% higher than the best discount price from a specialist tyre fitter/supplier.

The problem with the runflats is that if the tyre is not driveable then you have to pay whatever to whoever. I would have liked the option of a jack and 16" space saver for exactly this reason. Then you coud store a spare at home and just pay for fitting when you got back to base.:) :) :) :) :) However not much use on those long contintial excursions I'm planning ......:( :( :(

You mean they didn't really care if they put big gouges or scrapes on your alloys? It didn't bother them at all??

Hard to figure that one out.

HI-Q are owned by GoodYear.

Certain outlets have the equipment and staff specially trained.

Phone around HI-Q garages until you get a positive response - dont settle for "should be OK" - you will get a damaged wheel.

2 MINI dealers damaged 3 of my wheels !!!!

A MINI dealer repaired our GoodYear runflat without comment.

Another charged £95 for a sidewall puncture replacement GoodYear 195/55 65 fitted.

Red Hot mini,

When ordering from new, you can have a 'space saver' spare which fits underneath the car. about £25 i think.

You should have a MINI Mobility System (MMS), have you looked under the boot carpet??

S
If you upgrade to Chilli/Runflats you don't get the MMS and the space saver wheel is 15" in diameter so it's useless too!

When I got a puncture on my last car I was quoted a very competitive price by Halfords to replace the offending tyre. I went with them as that is where I had purchased my wheels. Unfortunately whilst carrying out the repairs they well and truly scuffed the alloy. Obviously I told them that the wheel was now no good to me. Within a matter of days they replaced the wheel and I was on my way again.

So if a tyre repair centre damages one of your wheels, all you need to do is complain and they will replace it.

By the way £89 is a great price for the Goodyear runflats, what do people excpect to pay for a 16" run flat tyre?

If it were only that simple every time.

(Don't get me wrong, I'm glad it worked out in your favor, but sometimes disputes about damage can be real battles that drag on and on.)

I got a nail in my 16" tyre at the weekend, priced a tyre this morning but as I work in the motor trade I can get the tyre wholesale for £77 inc vat :D. Local dealer retail is £100 plus vat.

I spoke to an independant non Hi-Q tyre place who is repairing the puncture tomorrow morning for me (doing a vulcanised repair) and as soon as I mentioned what tyre it was and what car it was off.....the response was a positive no problem..hope they are right else the will be replacing the alloy for me as they are unmarked and that will be pointed out.

BMW's official line is that you can't repair the EMT 16" tyres and should replace them.....Goodyears official line..... "should be able to puncture repair them without problems as long as it is safe to do so"........hmmmmm !!!

Quite frankly that is a ridiculous situation. Punctures are not that infrequent......

CAN YOU PUT TUBES IN THEM ????

You definitely can use the space saver spare wheel with the 16" wheels, or else my dealer is telling porkies again!

To be honest all this hassle for the 16s just doesn't seem worth it, reckon I might have to stick with the 7 holes, which look class anyway.

Is this true???

I've ordered mine with the Chili-pack but I did not order the extra spare. Does this mean I'm without any emergency solution in case of a puncture?
