Hi I've done a timing chain replacement on my r56 n12 all rebuilt but not running right
I've now been told to change the vanos sprockets
Can this be done without totally restripping the timing chain totally out
Can I just change the sprockets
Many thanks Dean

you can do but its a faff i use a bungy cord to hold chain up so dont fall off bottom sprocket , best off just buying another crank bolt and then be sure its retimed correctly afterwards

Hi Mike changed vanos solenoids
Changed cam sensors
I've know changed vanos sprockets seems to have sorted it
It's running lovely now
Is the a start up procedure after you've changed the vanos sprockets

I use snap on solus edge with 24,4 update on it that will also do vanos ,,, when you do you reset the main adaptions when engine cold then start leave on idle until fan cutc in and out you then reset vanos adaptions when oil is hot otherwise the cold thick oil can confuse it ,, sometime they take 3 of more resets on vanos adaptions to work right,, ie sometimes can make car feel a tad flat,, also after this you need to run car up road a good hour and give it some beans this will push the vanso system to its limit and same as fueling, so will learn ,,

Also my driver's seat back rest moves slightly when you brake or accelerate any idea what that might be
Thanks for all your help 👍🏻

Hi mate I hope you don't think I'm a pain but when pulling away in first gear I have to give it some revs when releasing the clutch otherwise it feels like it will cut out
It ticks over at about 7 to 8 on rev counter
Just to let you know the exhaust blows near the front flexi
Do you think it might be the rocker breather that goes behind the inlet manifold
I noticed there's smoke coming up from behind engine when she's warm hope you can help mate (y)

if exhaust leaks around flexi and cat it will cause all kinds of running issues as air can get to down stream 02 sensor and ecu will trim fuel accordingly. so yes flexi needs fixing

What the P0597 code means. If a PCM (Powertrain Control Module) stores this code, it's because the engine's thermostat is experiencing an issue with the control voltage. The control circuit is most likely either open or short.
The P0597 trouble code signifies that a thermostat heater control circuit is open.

the adapter cables are only for the later engines ie n18 where the thermostat housings were different on some cars , also i would not fit anything else but genuine or febi housings , reason behind this is these engines live on a knife edge of heat and only thing that controls this in live time is thermostat and temp sensor ,, also while doing the thermo do the plastic link pipe at rear of engine to water pump,,,LAG THE END TO WATER PUMP WITH RUBBER GREASE I USE OR CAN CLIP SEAL AND LEAK,,, and i promise you if do it will be within a hour of running it for first time,,, and the 2 hours to fix it again will drive you nuts, as its best to pull the inlet manifold to get at where it pushes in to the hole behind the water pump,
