Whalen fitment on 2005 Cooper S

Hey, boys and girls; I have a question.

I'm wondering whether any owners of 2005 Cooper S cars have experienced trouble fitting one of my shift knobs.

You see, I have this habit of not keeping specific records of the model years of my customers' cars (indeed, I don't always know the year!), and someone has asked me specifically about fitting a knob to his 2005.

So how about it? Can someone help me out here?

Thanks a bunch! :)

To help you I would need a shift knob to try with. are you having sales right now. i would like to try the whalen everyone is always talking about.
Doug,

I would be happy to be a beta tester :). I have an 05 Cooper S. I have been thinking about purchasing a Whalen I just cant decide on a design.

Bob
Doug,

Your knob fit perfectly on my 05 MCSC. (The car was built 11/04).
Doug,

The "BEST" knob on the market fits my 05MCS like Astaire fit Rogers!
Thanks for your help, Lovedoc & Indimini! :)
Hi Doug, mine fits perfect too :D
2 week old MCS :)
Yep, 05 shaft is the same as the 04 Doug.

Still love mine :)
No problems at all, slipped on nice and tight, it did not need any lube, perfect:p

'05 model, Dec '04 build
Ian (GBMINI) mentioned in his Blog that his did not fit on the stick of his New 05 MCS Auto but that was expected

Hi Doug,

I've kept my Whalen from my 03 car and plan on fitting it to a new S later this year. I was just wondering if have changed any dimensions from 03 onwards? I basically want to know if you think it'll fit.

Thanks.:)
Mo,

My old 03 knob fits onto my new S. It can need a little tweak to get it on though.

When you slide the knob onto the shaft, hold the collar in the up position (against the spring) and push down hard so that the small balls have enough movement to get over the lip on the shaft ;) You'll see what I mean when it comes to fitting it ;)

Cheers Chris.;)

It was a present so I was praying it'd fit.:)

That's good news.

It may or may not fit correctly.

Take it off and hold it upside down.
Look at the bottom surface of the sliding collar and compare it to the bottom surface of the inside tube (near the six locking balls).
If the tube is recessed approximately 1.5 mm lower than the collar, it should definitely fit; if not, it will likely need to be modified, requiring the extra material to be removed from the tube.
Doug, mine is recessed, but it doesn't really seem to fit "snug" like it did on my old S. Is there a way to modify it further to fit, I know people with the machines to do it if you could tell me what's what?
2006 Mini S, picked up in November--no problems installing the Whalen, which was installed a couple of weeks after I picked up the mini--popped right on, and is on there pretty snug.

As an aside, I was VERY surprised how easily the OEM shift knob came off, after reading posts with regard to how difficult it was to remove. I pulled slowly with increasing force, and it popped off easily--no nasal or sunroof damage incurred!
Did you have an "early" design Whalen though, which is my situation.
Mine was an early shift machine, fitted right on to my Sep'04 MCS.
