Has anyone tried the MINI-brand shampoo sold at dealers?

I wish I could've washed mine today, but it's tipping it down, so she's all snug in the garage, if a little manky!!

The polish is great, I cover the car in a oner then polish it all off, although you do get very sore arms by the end of it!!

Megs tyre shine is excellent too, and is by far their best smelling product (how girlie :p ) and the Quick Detailer is a life saver if you're at a car show!! :D :D
You're doing well Julz - i'll soon have to hand over the mantle of sad scottish meguiars rep to you! :p ;)

I'm an NXT fan too - although in the shampoo stakes i'm hearing good noises about Sonax shampoo available from <coughcoughvauxhalldealerscoughcough>
So, has anyone tried the MINI-Brand shampoo? Or even know what is in it? I am sure it is the same as the BMW-Brand shampoo since it is made by them. How is it?
I am another Meguiars NXT user. Both the wash and the wax. I find the wash is just so silky smooth compared to the Meguiars Gold Class, and the wax is excellent, leaving a deep shine :D I have only really used the Meguiars stuff, and only ever waxed/ polished the MINI (previous cars suffered badly  )

I think the MINI branded stuff is Zymol, although I could be wrong.

Don't know if it is the same but if it is it's fantasic. BMW shampoo does the best job, the car just gleams afterwards!!

Excellent news! I hope so. I picked up a bottle on a whim (instead of the NXT wash that everyone is raving about here) and will have to see how it does. Same price as the BMW stuff and same maker, so I am assuming, same stuff. Will have to try this and the NXT wash to compare.

Now, to get the nerve up to wash the car in below freezing temps...hahaha... :p
The accepted ("everybody says") wisdom is not to use dish detergent (aka washing-up liquid) on your car. The reason given is that it is too strong and will thus strip the wax off. But, having tried to clean candle wax off of wooden table tops and porcelain candle sticks, I can attest that detergent does not dissolve wax. Even if this argument were true, it wouldn't apply to the non-wax finishes like Zaino, Klasse, Autoglym, NXT, etc.

I'm willing to accept that for washing a car, a weaker solution of detergent is more appropriate than what you'd want for washing a roasting pan. But I suspect that there is no reason other than marketing hype to use a completely different product.

That said -- I just bought myself a gallon of Meguire's Shampoo Plus, which is in their "Professional Detailer" line. US$14 for the gallon, same price as Dawn dishwashing detergent, $1.75 a pint (P21S shampoo is almost $10 a pint!) Can someone on here with a background in chemistry tell me if I've been sucked in by the hype? Is there a real qualitative difference between dish washing and car washing?

Hey there Clutch Cargo - the melting point of candle wax is a lot higher than car wax - so it's no wonder it never dissolved on your table.

The salt content of dish washing detergent is very high compared to car shampoo so it can attack bare metal finishes like road salt and leaves your car with a dull finish.
I have always used Swissol products on my cars so guess that will apply to the S in January!
The BMW..

..original products may be from different manufactures ( I don´t know) but I am pretty sure that thier schampoo is the same as Sonax Gloss Schampoo wich I use and it is vg!
Zaino for me. I got it based on a lot of recommendations and it's indeed as good as people say it is.

You sayin' I smell bad?? :p
Well, I've had a change of heart regarding car shampoo.

My first instinct was to find the cheapest stuff that would do the job effectively. Now I'm convinced that the cheapest generic dishwashing liquid will work as well as the most expensive stuff you can buy. Sorry Wul, I can't accept your chemistristic explanation: Whatever salt there might be in the cleanser gets rinsed off; and it's not melting wax at issue, it's dissolving.

BUT -- Having a MINI is not only about getting the job done, it's about enjoying the ride! The esthetics of the experience is as important as ending up with a clean car. (I am a guy who spent $650 on custom poker chips. Not to improve my winnings but to make the game more enjoyable) After my cheapo stuff gets used up (well, I'm not abandoning practicality altogether!) I'll probably switch to Sonax or NXT, based on the gushing, sensuous reviews I've read on here.
I used Dawn to strip off all the wax present on my car after delivery, before giving it the Zaino treatment and yes, it does a fantastic job of this.

If you want to test it, wash your waxed car with Dawn (or for the UK guys Fairy Liquid) and then rinse with a gentle flow (not spray) of water.............notice how it easily sheets-off the bodywork and the water doesn't bead; a good indication that the surface is hydrophilic and bereft of wax. Believe me, there is science behind the formulation of car shampoos; you are not being ripped-off (most of the time ;) ).
In other words, it does strip the wax off!! ;) :D Hydrophilic, sheesh, I ain't heard that word since my fluid mechanics exam!!
Yes, Dawn (and other dishwashing detergents) will strip conventional waxes straight off. Zaino is a polymer sealant, so this is much more durable and difficult to remove....hence the great all-year-round protection. I think Zaino themselves quote that 1 coat is good enough for 6 months protection and two is good for 9 months.....but we all know, you can never have enough coats of Zaino
