I believe there was a team that dropped an M3 engine into the MC...try searching for it

That's not a naturally aspirated Cooper Engine though, is it? That's a BMW M3 engine. That isn't what he asked. It would have been the correct answer if the thread starter would have asked "What's the most powerful engine someone has put into a Mini Cooper?";)

I think you get my drift.;)
Mine produced 129BHP an 123ft lb torque on the rollers but i doubt thats the best :)
What modifications did you use? No offence but if a 14bhp gain is the best here thats pathetic!

The Cooper Works was only rated at 132bhp. I think 129BHP is a good improvement

The Cooper engine is about as tuned as it can get while still being reliable and not bolting a supercharger or turbo to it.

I think a MINI specialist offer a 140bhp conversion, I don't think its a huge amount faster though.

I think I read somewhere West Racing in Thruxton did a ' trackday' Cooper with 186 bhp normally aspirated not really suitable for road use I would guess .

186 !! N/A that is insane i wonder what kinda mods they did...
i aim for 150bhp
so far i got k&n typhoon(sounds awesome)
magnaflow cat-back exhaust!!!
next is :bad: :bad: :bad:
power mods

super,

I think with those three mods you will be at about 130 hp according to most of the threads I have been reading. That is really a pretty good gain for the engine. As you try and get to 150, the cost per hp gained becomes pretty prohibitive! You start talking about new camshafts, porting, headers. It is probably going to cost way more than just getting an S! Of course that is not as much fun, especially if you do the work yourself. Good luck on your quest, but I am more than satisfied with being around 125-130 hp, just gives my mini that extra zip!
:indi:
well ultimately, i'm more interested in gettin a better 0-60 , and 1/4 mile time than getting more bhp. I like how my car pulls now,but its jus missing that extra umph!

Miltek manifold
Magnex catback
Mini mania airbox with pipercross filter

I think 14bhp isnt a bad gain. Especailly if u look at the figures a bit more, mine produces 129bhp @ 5750 rpm the standard cooper produces 115 @ 6000rpm so think about that bhp gain again mate :)
Plus i got a feeling that the RR i went on reads low or most others read high as minis with simlar mods on other rollers have read higher. Also my torque is at lower RPM an more ;)
That is cool, we dont have a rolling road in bim but we do have a dyno, its pretty expensive, i don think its worth it to put my mini on unless, i think i got a significant power gain. I jus want to feel more low end torque, i think the weakness in the mini is that the car almost beings accelerating hard at 4500 rpms.. Has ANYONE GOT A LIGHTENED FLYWHEEL IN THERE COOPER NON-S. It seems like a sensible mod for acceleratin, i cannot find anyone who has done this........
If you really want to get power then a K&N Typhoon isn't the way to do it. Get a Gruppe M Induction kit and get Hayward & Scott to make you an exhaust (best in the UK, one of the best in the world). Then you should get some headwork done (ported & polished) and also the ECU reprogrammed. Oh and also get cams and pulleys.

  • Gruppe M Induction Kit
  • Hayward & Scott Exhaust
  • Ported & Polished Head
  • Cams & Vernier Pullies
  • :bad: :bad: :bad: ECU Reprogram

...Only two ways to do it...more power or less weight!

If you just need a little more kick every once in a while, how hard would it be to "put your car on the bottle"?

Nitrous seems like a pretty good plan for occasional crazyness, and I know certain groups of car nuts favor it, but I haven't seen it discussed much here (though mainly because I haven't thought about it much...)

NOS is a littel extreme and expensive
I looked at it before and I think that it wud be possible to get a one/coop to 100bhp per litre fairly easy N/A tuned but........the let down is the gearbox and clutch on the non getrag cars I don't think they would take that power very well at all:p

Nos isnt exactly briliant more wheels spin an only a sudden boost, not a continued one :)

use it in 2nd gear when doing around 45 miles an hour and I think you wont have any wheelspin ;)

Just going on my experience of my mates dads westfield when it had a 2.9 granada lump with nitrous, everytime u gave it some just used to spin the wheels :D
