I've just bought a 2014 Mini Cooper S Roadster.
When you look from the outside in to the car through the rear screen, there is something that looks broken..
It looks like it could be a handle or a piece of trim, maybe 5/6 inches wide...
Any idea what this was or is?

Sounds like it is the cover for the catch mechanism that they have on the American version, the electric hood is an option over there, if you look on the rear bulkhead, top middle there is another cover that covered the release mechanism.

Mine pinged off the day I picked it up from new, it’s only held on with double sided sticky tape, in true Blue Peter fashion and when I had to have the hood replaced, it was laying in the hood well as it had not been stuck back properly. I would assume that you could buy another from MINI as a spare part.
