Any ideas of which oil to top up for an '06 One?

I know the book goes on about BMW oil.....but any tips on what to buy in the 'real' world?

I was after both grade and brand, and suggestions?

Looks like its a trip to Halfords!

One other question.....It's due an oil change in about 3000 miles.

However, if I top up in the meantime, how can I check if the previous owner topped up with the right stuff? I'm sure I read that fully and semi-synth don't mix, and I don't want the oil in there to be a Heinz 57!

The previous owner, more than likely, never even lifted the bonnet between services. But is there any way of checking if what's in there is the fully synth before I go topping up?

Its "long life" oil too (the bottle says recommended for BMW) which means it can reach 20k before oil changes.

I wouldn't worry too much about what the last guy used, just top it up for now. There's nothing you can do about what the last owner used, so why not assume he used Fully Synth :)
It shouldn't stop you from topping up the oil.
