Hi everyone,

My baby is 7 next month and due for a service. As the deallership has moved I want to take her to a more local garage. There is a good Landrover place up the road where I usually get my MOT done. However, there seems to be some confusion about what type of service is due.

I've done 22,500 miles since Dec 2001 when I had my Mini Cooper from new. Up till now I had all the services done by the book my MINI/BMW. The little clock is showing on the Odometer and the words "Oil Service". The words Inspection are not showing, therefore, am I right in thinking I only need the Oil Service and nothing else?

The non BWM place seems to think I might need an Inspection II or brake fluid change. Can anyone help please?

Also exactly what work is done done when having an Oil Service?

TIA

Susie

How many services have you had?

They go Oil Service, Inspection I, Oil Service, Inspection II etc

Brake Fluid changes (which are totally separate to services) are due approximately every 2 years, so it will depend on what your indicator is saying (assuming it was reset last time? If indeed there was a last time?).

(BTW, I love the irony of your Username ;) :p )

Thanks Scrogg, that is because I'm manic and off the planet at lot of the time!

I hope I've got this replying method right.

According to my Service Booket (which I think is correct) I've had:

Brake fluid 12/03 & 11/06

Coolant 11/06

Oil Service & Micro Filter 12/03

Inspection I & Micro Filter 11/06

TIA

I meant it's ironic that you're called Manic Poster but had, at that time, only posted 7 times in 7 years :p

Almost ;)

In which case, you should be having an Oil Service and a Brake Fluid Change.

Many thanks Scrogg. Well I guess I'm not as manic as I thought! Thanks for your help, I've booked an Oil Service, brake fluid change and MOT for Monday.

Planning ahead, I guess I will need an Inspection II this time next year or do I have to wait for the mileage? Currently 22,500 miles.

Regards,
Susie

Forgot to say the estimate is £140 inc VAT for all the above inc MOT as apposed to £130 quoted by the deallership for just an Oil Service so I'm quite pleased with that (they collect and deliver back too). They will follow the MINI service format and they are Jaguar / Land Rover specialists.

If you are going to continue doing an extremely low mileage your next service will be due in 2 years.

Make sure the dealership that you are booked in with on Monday reset the service indicator light when they have done the service.

Check your service book and see whats been stamped so far...that will let you know whats due next

The way it works fom memory is

oil service
Inspection 1
oil service
inspection 2
oil service
inspection 1
oil service ... You get the idea anyhow.

Brake fluid is every 2 years or every 30k miles (whichever is first)
Coolant change (system flush and pressure check) is every 4 years maximum, preferably every 2 as with brakes

Thanks everyone. They told me that my reversing light is not working, wanted £30 just to look at it so I said not to bother (they did say they tried a new bulb). I've not been able to get anyone to stand behind me to look at it yet but assuming that it is not working and not the bulb, any suggestions as to what I can try myself?

TIA

Just checked, they stamped the Oil service part but not the break fluid. Will check to see if they have reset the car before I go back with the service book tomorrow.
