Windows Dropping

1106 Views 6 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  AardHawk
On my wife's car she has noted that sometimes she has returned to the car to find the windows have dropped by a couple of inchs and the sunroof has opened slightly too.
Also some times the temp gauge will shoot straight up to maximum on start up even on a cold morning - looking like a electrical problems - any advice please.

Sure she is not pressing the open button for an extended period, if you press and hold open the windows drop and roof opens...

Don't think she is holding the button down, windows and sunroof are down prior to her pressing the key.
The temp gauge jumping straight up to hot on start up is becoming more common now.
May have a look at the BCM over the weekend to make sure it is nice and dry.

Update on problems.
Windows dropping problem has not happen again, most likely key fob button being held in some how in her pocket/bag while she approaches the car.
Temp gauge intermittently shooting up to hot on start up or during driving - replaced temp sender unit.
Not starting sometimes, misfiring and cutting out - replaced fuel filter in petrol tank.
Car now running great.

Its worth pointing out, that the window/sunroof feature can be turned off by the dealer, or maybe by yourself if you have the correct diagnostic software.
I used to come back to my car after work to find the sunroof and windows wide open. I think it is one of the most useless features ever foisted onto an unknowing owner.

I just had windows drop and sunroof open issue. Any ideas for the cause are welcome. I suspected my Mini was just haunted!
I probably wasn't clear in my reply above.

One of the features of the car, is that you can open the sunroof and windows by pressing the unlock button on your key fob. The idea is that when we have Arizona like weather here in the UK, you can make the car a bit cooler before you get in.

The major problem is, if you accidentally press the unlock button in your purse or pocket it will do it without you realising. The key fob has quite a long range, anything up to a hundred yards if you hold the fob close to your chin apparently!!!

The dealer can turn this useless feature off. Its probably a major earner for them.
