Problems getting into 2nd gear...

I purchased a MCS w/ 16,000 miles on it a month ago and it has a few mods (Pulleys, Intake, Headers, One Ball, Helix Short shifter).

I'm having problems getting into 2nd gear when accelerating at wide open full throttle. It doesn't go in at all until the revs decrease by a lot. This problem doesn't happen when I'm driving normally. Even when I rev up to 5K RPMs.

For example, everytime I go decide to leave a light at wide open throttle, I get to 6500RPMs and I shift and it doesn't go into 2nd gear. I try several times and nothing. I have to wait until the car decreases revs a lot in order to get into it.

I'm wondering if anyone knows of this problem or has a solution.

Hey there,

You might have your trans checked out - it sounds like your syncro's are going out. The most common syncro to fail is the 1-2 shift ( it is used the most ) - if your car has mods ( it does ) then the prev. owner prob. drove it "spiritedly" and my have trashed the 1-2 syncro's.

If that is the case then the trans has to come out:frown: and be repaired - you might try some oil stabilizer or something?? it might help for a while - but you never know.

good luck

I agree, could be weak/worn synchro on 2nd gear. Your revs are too high for the cogs to sync, until your revs drop and then it all starts to work. Usually you will get a crunching noise if you shift very quickly into 2nd gear at lower revs. This is sure sign of synchro on its way out. Not necessarily mileage specific, more usually it occurs because the driver has been constantly doing racing starts and basically changing into 2nd at high revs and very quickly before the synchro has actually had time to properly synchronise the gear cogs.
