Yesterday I was driving home and noticed that my Mini Cooper 52plate was getting harder to get into gear . I managed to get the car home but now it won't go into and if it does it makes and awful noise . Also if you put into reverse and lift clutch it just stalls /jumps .The clutch pedal has gone really stiff . Any ideas???

Thanks for the reply I have stripped out air box and battery box and slave cylinder is all dry and not leaking , can this fail and not leak fluid . I have also checked the feed and not leaking . When pressing clutch up and down the slave cylinder does make a sqeeking noise And a tapping nosie when full down . Also when you press clutch down and try to engage 1st it rolls forwards .

Clutch sounds like its working then, but if you have oil dripping from underneath you say? it could be then a gearbox or engine flywheel oil seal thats leaking and caused oil to get into the clutch which would cause it to drag and not release properly which will give the crunching gears selection??
You need to find out where the oil is coming out, if the flywheel/clutch bell housing? if so thats probably the cause?
