Exhaust manifold needs replacing?

Today I took the mini in for what I thought was a problem with the suspension struts. On pressing down on the body over the wheel arches was a loud metallic squeaking noise (kinda like robotic mice mating..!)

Picked the car up in the afternoon to be told that it was in fact the exhaust manifold that would need replacing, and it booked in for next Tuesday.

Has anyone else suffered the same problem, and can anyone illuminate the problem for me. So far I have ..

1. Back box etc of exhaust is fixed.
2. Exhaust manifold is near the front and moves with the suspension? (not quite sure what it does mind)
3. Somewhere between the two is something that enables the moving engine bay bit and the fixed exhaust bit to join up - and somewhere around there the thing is busted!

Also do you think this is covered by the warranty (03 reg)? I know that exhausts generally are bits like wiper blades, brake pads and tires that the consumer pays for - but I'm not sure if this counts. I didn't bring it up with the dealer - for now I'll assume it is covered as he hasn't mentioned money!

Cheers in advance

exhaust manifold.

i had my exhaust manifold changed on my 51 cooper 6months ago just before the warranty was up which didnt cost me anything.
My fault was due to the catalyst it had broken up causing a rattle, the exhaust manifold and the catalyst are all one part of the exhaust.

so you should be ok as far as warranty goes.

I have had a rattle from f /o/s since power steering pump was changed last week on my MC. Doesn't do it when cold, only when starts to warm up. Took into dealer they had a listen and said the Exhaust Manifold was causing the problem so are going to replace under warranty
