Hi, I have a R56 2007 Mini Cooper, it has failed the MOT with very high emissions, as below, I have also had an additional emissions test a two fault codes were shown, 2A63 Oxygen Sensor before cat and 287D Vanos inlet actuator. Can anyone help with ideas what could be causing the high emission. Thanks

I am having an issue with the 287D code - in your case it is either a stuck solenoid (try swapping them over to see if teh code moves) . If not it could well be a knackered timing chain. How many mile shas it covered, and do you know if it has had the full TC kit replaced - normally teh TC's are shot after 60k miles.

The 2A63 is also code P0030 - which is the heater code on the upstream O2 - I believe it is a circuit code. You either have a knackered harness, green crusties on the connectors somewhere, or, more likely, the heating element has broken.

To look at your emissions issues, how much oil does it burn every 1000miles? If it is high, I would suggest the cat has been cooked and you are burning oil - your CO is miles out. You may need a full engine refresh if I am honest

I am sure @mike1967 will give you a more detailed insight, as he builds these engines for a living

Thanks for your respond, I have only just bought the car with no MOT due to the high emissions, so no idea if it is burning oil, it has done 94k and I have no evidence that the timing chain has been replaced. I will check the harness and replace the heater if connections seem OK, when you say a full refresh do you mean full rebuild.
