I've been advised to replace the whole exhaust - REALLY?

My Mini Cooper R56 has a flexi joint that is failing. I suspect it won't pass the MOT.

Rybrook Mini want to replace the front exhaust section and are quoting £550

A local independent garage say that you may as well replace the entire system and they are quoting £400

Are these really the options? Does anyone have any other suggestion?

i replace the flexi like link below for idea , you can also buy the welded type as well and those are better to be honest but will need to be welded on,
welded type, once again measure yours before ordering
