Hi all, I have an R57 , the sunroof part roof used to go back and forward in one go from the fob and the switch. Now the sunroof part goes back and forward in stages instead of one motion before the roof retracts. How do i get the sunroof to go back and forth in one go instead of around 6 stages?
I have the exact same issue, the sunroof moves about 3 inches and then you have let go of the switch and press it again.. have you found out what the problem is ??

I havent as yet, cannot find anything on internet regarding this at all.
Think I might have take it to a convertible diagnostic garage next month and let them see if they can figure it out. I will add that this problem for me only occured when I had to new front tires replaced by kwickfit and they didn't reset the sensors and an error appeared on the dash, so I took it back and they reset the sensor and then the roof started playing up and is not working correctly and my boot won't open, I've been using the fob to open it, I have a new boot unlock (the full chrome trim above the number plate) coming in the next few days. I will update if I find a solution before I take it to the garage.

Have you found out what this issue is yet as mine has just started doing the same thing?

NO not yet, I still need to take it in to have it looked at but the specialist garage want me to make an appointment (bear in mind it's like 45 miles away), I've just been so busy with work over the last few weeks, as soon as i get some free time i will take it in and update the post.

Hi Juls. This is probs a bit late for you, but it may happen again, so here we are! These are very common faults in the Mini's I have found. I have two solutions for you hopefully!!! Free also!! My wife's Mini One Convertible had both these symptoms and I went onto a mini forum and found the answer to the window and the roof retracting problems. 1) Window not working; Turn the ignition on, but do not start the car. Hold BOTH window switches in the 'Up' mode. On each door, there are two speakers. While holding the window switches up still, bash with you closed fist, half way between the speakers. Try to open and close the window now. If it doesn't work, repeat until it does. It may go again in the future, but just repeat the procedure! 2) Retracting Roof/Sun roof not working; In the boot, on BOTH sides, there are black levers, that when pulled up vertically, will release the rear of the roof. Pull these levers to the vertical 'up' position, towards the direction of the roof. You will now be able to see the parcel shelf 'seats' and shelf. Turn the ignition on, but do not start the car. Go to the rear of the car again. If you look the the left, below the parcel shelf, you will see the left hand parcel shelf 'seat'. Lift this up and down and holding your ear close to it, you will hear a faint contact sensor sounding. Do this a couple of times, this makes sure that the parcel shelf is sat correctly. Now pull the black levers down again to the vertical 'down' position, towards the wheels and make sure they are pushed firmly in. Go back to the driver's seat and try the sun roof and whole roof. Once you have used it a couple of times, it should reset and you will be fine! Good luck! Please share these if they work. It's a very costly fix otherwise!!! Both solutions worked for me. Regards Miles
You just saved my boot!

I have a 2009 R57 and the roof was not working when I bought it so I took it on as a challenge. I was told by the used car dealer that if I replaced the front roof motor it would work. This is a part with a ÂŁ250 price tag (if you're lucky). I disconnected it and inspected it for damage or signs of broken gears etc. All looks ok. There is no action or noise when activating chrome switch on the console with the dome and side interior lights - which all work. Where would you start to diagnose this?

Hi Guys,
I have poured over these pages of helpfully info, tips and hints to getting my soft top to work.
I have by-passed the parcel shelf micro switch but left the latch safety microswitch intact.
This has given some fruit for my efforts, i can you fully open sun roof and retract roof but
only on the first turn of the key!
It WILL NOT work with reds on or engine running.

Has anyone heard or know why this may be happeneing ??

I am having the same issue. No noise or signs of life to open. Fuses ok. I can manually open it and then use the hydraulic the rest of the way. To close the same hydraulic up to the where the top motor should kick in but nothing. Need to do it manually.
I read here that the brake sensor could affect it so I will try that.
Also, heat could affect it. Will try at night.
Sorry for your issues. I hope you have them fixed. It's been some time since your post

Hi sorry to jump on post but I’m at my wits end with my Mini Cooper R57 convertible 2010. I’m having trouble with the sun roof. Some days it goes down and others it doesn’t. If I press middle window toggle switch and all 4 windows go down the roof will open fully. If the back windows don’t go down then same button is pressed the roof will not open at all. When I press roof button an amber convertible exclamation mark shows up on dashboard (which I can’t seem to find on google) please has anyone any ideas as to what it could be??

Thank you Thank thank you, A million Thanks. It worked like magic.
I bought the car few months ago knowing that the roof will not open only the sunroof, Tried few things but without any luck, till i did read this article. i did not give much attention thought it is another guy with some of his ideas, till today thought ok lets try that,
first i was sure my battery is good and strong, then jumped to part 3 when all windows and the roof are completely closed. I Press and hold the central lock toggle switch in UP position for 5 seconds, it did lock the doors so i pressed it up again for another 5 secound.
after that i fully opened all windows and Saied her we go, is gona be true or not......sunroof opened as usual (ok thats normal, Saying to my self) ... unbelieving my eyes .. Iam seeing the roof opening for the first. waw.. That was absolute AMAZING.
Thank you a million, you are credit to the web 👌👌👌
What year was your car

I'm very late to this thread but recently, the US driver side top latch broke which after opening the sunroof, faults out when I try to lower the roof. I can manually unlatch it with a flat blade screw driver but would like to replace the latch. I tried disassembling the roof rail to access the latch but have been unsuccessful. Anyone have any tips?

Hello - adding my 2011 R57 sunroof issues to this post, so any help is greatly appreciated. My issue is, the top will go down, however I receive the Mini / Lock error on the dash, along with the message "Convertible top not locked!" I've replaced the rear shelf latch, along with the rear boot open button and I'm still having this error message.

Thanks in advance for any help!
