Hey pin,
sounds like the problem lies with the fitting of the new steering rack. Looks as though they haven't put the steering wheel back on straight. You could try loosening the pinch bolt under the steering column (behind lower dash shelf), seperating the upper column from lower column, turning the wheel until its straight and then reassembling.
If BMW fitted the rack - I'd take it back to them and insist they sort it.

mine wasn't straight when they did mine and they sorted it when I took it back.

 

Forgot to mention had a basic alignment and not a full is it KDS one, could that be the soltion to the problem?

 

Not an expert by any stretch of the imagination - but my thoughts are the wheel alignment/tracking changes are minor so shouldn't put the steering wheel orientation out by a large margin.
I still think the fault lies with the reassembly of the column after fitting the new rack. The 'column is in two parts and the joint where they join together (above the pedals) is probably where the problem lies. You need to have the wheels 100% straight and the joint lined up correctly to make sure you don't end up with an offset steering wheel.
If BMW fitted the rack recently - take it back to them and get them to sort it - should be FOC and should only take 20mins or so max. Don't let the desk based service advisor fob you off with an 'it's normal' excuse as IMO they always try and weasel their way out of fixes.

Your fault is with your tyres. if your tracking and wheel alignment was out you will have un even ware. swap your wheels from front to back. and get a computer wheel alignment (KDS) Bmw charge arround £150-300 but dont do that take to to a local place who has the same machine. 1 place in brockly has the same machine and charges £30!

 

Had the proper alignment and it is alot better. Should I still swop the tyres round? I have non branded at the front, good tread and svey slightly older Dunlops at the rear. Looking to change to non runflats when the tread in all tyres runs down more.
