Run extra cable from door to interior

I'm installing some puddle lights and extra door handle leds, I really want to run the extra wires through the cable duct between the door and the rest of the car, the one you can see when you open the door. Is this possible? I tried to remove it but it seems the whole door has to come of to be able to run the extra wires to it. Is it possible to get my own wires from the door to the interior though the factory fit cable duct, or do I have to run the extra wires next to it (which I do not fancy much). Thx (I did a search but couldn't find the answer).

as these already exists on the 2005 model, ask the dealers for details of how they are fitted.

It can be done & was in one of my missing DIY guides.
The door tube can be pulled out from the door (its just clipped in)
At the other end - where it enters the car - it is held in place by a 8mm bolt.
You then need to be carefull not to trap fingers (door not fully open) the plug & socket assembly that was held in by the 8mm bolt can be pulled out & the slide lock released so you can pull the plug away. The rubber can be pealed back from this so you can feed the wires down it from the door. Then find an unused part of the plug (with no pins in it) & drill small holes for your wires.
Push the wires through this & the socket then into the car. Reattach the plug & socket & rebiuld.

I need to try & find the pics that I lost from my site - they would help explain better

I got them already fitted in the door, I just need to get the wires to the interior preferably through the factory fitted cable duct. I have a 2003 MCS and I was not planning on getting my MCS rewired at the dealer for some extra light, I'm sure these wires are also lead through the cable duct. Thx for the advise though.

The pictures show the orange led mounted in the door handle, I hope it will look nice in the dark.

I did it, it's quite easy, but you have to use the correct wire (don't ask me, I asked an eletrician and he gave me the correct stuff!).

You can see I fitted them here: http://www.mini2.com/forum/showthread.php?t=77547&highlight=puddle

I need to change that into another DIY guide when I get time, with a more complete guide and photos.

Basically it's damned fiddly.
Thx Paul, I just wonder how he got the second screw of the grommit loose, I can't get to it, seems like the whole door has to come of because when the door is open it is right in front of it, but I will look at it again with a fresh view, and I will have look at the mentioned DIY from Mikey. I also suspected there was a plug in there, I wanted to try to get through it with some kind of iron wire from the other side to pul the wires through, glad I didn't do that.

BTW, I sticked the wires through the rubber leadtrough of the front speaker, in the thread you mentioned he lead the wires through a whole where a panel thingy is clicked through, that won't work or may blank the wires in some time because of rubbing?

Sorry to doublepost, I searched for cable duct but the word in that thread was gromit :)

Thanks Mikey. Just e-mailed you for the folding mirrors DIY as Paul mentioned in his thread, and as it is not yet on your new website. With your explanation here I should be ablo to get the wires through, I didn't know it was only one 8 mm bolt, I thought there was also one on the other (unreachable) side too. Thx.
