Hi everyone, been a while. I was thinking of changing my camshaft for a uprated one and was wondering which is best and if anyone else can shed some light on which one to buy.

I am interested in a NEWMAN cam as they're reasonably priced and seem to be a fairly popular choice especially amoungst my ASBO friends with cossies..lol. I am also aware of GTT and SHRICK i was just wondering whats the best for my money..?

I allready have the following:

JCW GP Intercooler
JCW GP ECU Re-Map
JCW 400cc Fuel Injectors
NGK Iridium Plugs
17% Pulley
Pipercross CAI
Janspeed Manifold
200 Cell Sports Cat
Milltek Cat-Back System
Magnecor 8.5mm HT Leads

Thanks.

Ross.

The genuine JCW injector is 380 cc/min and not 400.
There are new cams being developed in the US right now and dyno tests show a good gain and better high end power than the Newman.
1. Hubie 1 (ABF)
2. Nitrostick 1 (Crower)
Both can be purchased from Mynes.
More aggressive profiles are also available depending on your mods.

the new crower and hubie cams are proving popular and seeing results. they also offer in both cases I believe 2 options a higher lift, shorter duration (mid range torque and power) cam (usually a less agresive profile delivering smoother and accross the rev range) and a shorter light longer duration aggressive cam that tends to be a little bit less smooth in power delivery and tends to see big power numbers but up hiogh in the rev range. The Hubie and crower NS2 I think are this aggressive type, same with minimania/ultrik and schrick (which is what GTT sell) with real power coming in about 4k and then keeping on coming all the way to red line and still climbing. The NS1 crower and the newman are smoother delivererers but with slightly lower peak performance...although you get your umph lower in the revs and stretched over a wider range of revs to. These are more gentle cams IMO but still give great results. I run a shrik and spend all my time above 4k to give the power.

it all depends on your preference for how you want the power. there are plenty of 250-270bhp cars out there with newman cams ... in fact I think that one car with 284bhp @ 7kish has a newman. Theres also a few 250+ cars with shricks. the hubie and crowers are less prolific at the moment, but big in the US and gathering a following here too. There is a MINI entered into the Time Attack series this October @ Snetterton and I think he's got a Hubie cam in

yep mine is. but to get the most from the long duration cams they tend to work better with big valved heads or at least ones that have had some flow work. the newman is good for wide band low down power. the shrick i think will defo give you more but to max its potential it has to be ragged and a big valve head makes a difference too. hubie likes the long duration cams that deliver high in the revs and thats why the hubie is a bit more that way inclined, you'll see more bhp numbers from these sorts cams but it tends to be high up in the revs. the newman gives it you from much lower down is more of a fast road cam. for example if me and a friend in a modded S boot it in the same gear at the same revs he pulls away initially with his newman cam and 17% pulley...as the revs build though my schrick comes on and my shrick and 15% drag a little back on him. his newman has less puff at 7k than the shrick but as we both run stock limiters i can't use that extra umph i'd have when his newman runs out as i hit the limiter in mine. raise the limiter an you'll gain everything back that you lost initially. but it means for the power you spend the whole time screaming about at over 4k rpm whereas a newman driver doesn't have to and can change earlier. great for the drag strip or a remapped car or racing/track days but on the road I think to a degree a lot of drivers are better with the newman or something of a similar profile thats not as high end as the shrick or some other lower lift extended duration cams

The more aggressive ones (tending to deliver more power but in a shorter and higher up the rev range) I know of are;

Shrick (I have this and it is what is supplied by Lohen and GTT amongst others. Tried and tested German brand)
ABF (Also called the Hubie cam. Hubie says his cams tend to deliver big power high up the revs as he belives thats the best way for max performance. Jove from MINItorque is entering Time Attack with this cam I think)
Crower Nitrostick2 (Also called the NS2. I don't know a lot about this other than it has similar numbers on certain charicteristic as the shrick and there is quite aggressive)
Ultrick (Also referred to as the MiniMania cam, basically exact same lift and duration as the Shrick from the numbers I've seen)

There are also some slightly less aggressive ones that give good power but with a wider power band (making them even more road friendly especially on cars with stock rev limiters);

Newman (Called the 1320 or RMW cam by some in the past, I know lots of cars with this)
Crower Nitrostick1 (NS1)

I'm sure there are others but I can't think of them at the moment. Don't take these as gospel either as I'm just trying to remember the numbers and txt I've seen posted about the internet and by the makers on ther forums. If your interested in any of them I'd dig a little further and see what exact detail there is between the ones your shortlisting. I'm sure others will chip in an correct some of my listing with better or more up to date info on the NS1 and NS2 etc
